We're Going Net-Zero!
Thanks to very generous gifts from the Avangrid Foundation and our partner ReVision Energy we equipped several of the homes in Carpenter Court, our Scarborough project, with solar panels. These energy savers are a tremendous benefit to our families, and are eco-friendly and energy efficient.
In 2019 we are going one step further! One of our new homes will be net-zero!
What is net-zero?
A net-zero building is one with zero net energy consumption, meaning the total amount of energy used by the building on an annual basis is roughly equal to the amount of renewable energy created on the site. Our next home is projected to use an estimated 10,245 kilowatts of electricity per year, costing approximately $1535 annually. The solar panels installed on that house will cover all of that cost to the family. These numbers include all of the utility costs including heat, hot water, lights, appliances, and ventilation.
