What Can I Donate?

This page contains a list of the items the Portland ReStore accepts. If you don’t see your items listed, or, if you have questions, please call our store at 207-221-0047. Click here for a list of items we cannot accept. Click here for a list of other organizations that accept donations.

Appliancesstoves
Refrigerators, freezers, cook tops, wall ovens, microwaves, washing machines, dryers, stoves, range hoods, air conditioners (accepted seasonally), new or “like new” gas boilers. 
ALL appliances must be in full and complete working order. 

Furniture
ALL hardwood furniture including but not limited to: dressers, night stands, end tables, coffee tables, kitchen and dining tables, chairs, china cabinets, hutches, buffets, entertainment units, shelving, desks and drafting tables. 
Office furniture including but not limited to: desks, file cabinets, office/conference room chairs.

Building Materials
Sheetrock, fencing, shutters, columns, posts, railing, balusters, newel posts.  

Cabinetstables
Kitchen cabinet sets or individual pieces, vanity cabinets, medicine cabinets and bathroom storage cabinets. 
ALL cabinets must be free of rot and severe water damage.

Doors
Pre-hung interior and exteriors doors, solid-wood paneled doors, sliding glass/French pre-hung doors (complete units only), steel-insulated doors, and bi-fold doors. ALL doors must be free of rot and water damage.

Lighting
Interior and exterior residential fixtures, table and floor lamps, ceiling fans (complete with mounting bracket only). ALL lights must be in complete working order with mounting hardware.

Hardwarecabinets
Hinges, drawer pulls, clasps, handles, door knobs, deadbolts (with keys only), packaged hardware items, packaged screws, nails etc.

Plumbing Supplies
Toilets, sinks, showers, tubs, shower heads, valves, fittings, pex pipe, packaged plumbing hardware. ALL toilets must be low-flow (1.6 gal or less) and ALL sinks, toilets, tubs and showers must be white or off-white in color.

Roofing Materials
3 tab and architectural shingles (FULL bundles only), rolled roofing and tar paper.

Flooring
New ceramic kitchen and bath tiles, new hardwood flooring, new laminate and engineered flooring. Reclaimed hardwood flooring accepted if it is free of nails and bundled together. ALL flooring must be donated in quantities greater than 40 ft2. No loose pieces or half empty boxes please.

Windowswindows
New and used dou
ble/thermal paned windows. Complete units only; no sashes. ALL windows must be free of rot and water damage with the glass and seals fully intact. Architectural windows taken at staff discretion.

Tools
ALL hand tools and ALL power tools. Power tools must be safe and in full working order.

Countertops
Laminate counter with no holes cut out, at least 4’ in length. Granite counter accepted on a case by case basis.

Insulation
New fiberglass, rigid boards free of debris, used fiberglass if it is bagged and of significant lengths.

Lumber/Plywood
Framing lumber 6’ or more, finished 1x and all wood trim 6’ or more, plywood, OSB, or particle board in full or half sheets only. ALL lumber and sheet goods must be free of nails/screws.


Items We Cannot Accept

  • Computer, fax and copy equipment
  • Office cubicles
  • Fluorescent and commercial light fixtures
  • Carpet or rugs of any kind
  • Oil furnaces
  • Cast iron radiators
  • Hollow-core doors
  • Trash compactors
  • Used/broken tiles
  • Upholstered items (sofas, loveseats, recliners etc…)
  • Clothing, linens, bedding and drapes
  • Mattresses and box springs
  • Baby items
  • Anything that doesn’t work or needs replacement parts
  • Blinds or window treatments of any kind
  • Paint, stain, thinners or hazardous material of any kind
  • Shower doors
  • Unframed mirror or glass
  • Used dishwashers, hot water heaters and faucets
  • TV’s
  • Storm windows
  • Swing sets or playground equipment
  • Pianos or organs
  • Trampolines
  • Garage doors
  • Hot tubs

To be in accordance with the Reduction of Lead in Drinking  Water Act, the Portland ReStore is no longer able to sell or accept used dishwashers, kitchen and bathroom faucets, or hot water heaters that components containing more than .025% lead. This includes items older than 2011, and items older than 2013 that do not have a compliance statement.


What do we pick up? 

We pick up all of the items on our accepted items list. We do however reserve the truck for pickups that meet the following requirements:

  • The items are at ground level (i.e. in the garage or outside)
  • You are located within our service area (Cumberland County)
  • The item (s) are large and require a truck to move
  • You have a large quantity of items

Due to the cost of transportation, the staff required and our goal of being diligent in how we use our resources to raise funds to support Habitat’s building projects, we must limit our donation pickups to items that meet these criteria.
