ReStore - Going Strong!
Our ReStore is doing better than ever! In March we reached total net sales of over $90,000, a new monthly revenue record. This puts our March 2019 sales at a 35% increase from March 2018. Also in March, we received 190 donations and processed over 1500 transactions.
Our May net sales were just under $88,000, so we continue to do well!
The ReStore is our single biggest fundraiser, so by donating and shopping you are helping us to build more homes for deserving Maine families. What's more, since we opened in 2006 we have diverted 6.7 million pounds of usable goods from landfills!
We're located at 659 Warren Avenue in Portland and we're open Tuesday through Saturday, 9:00am-5:00pm. Are you interested in donating new or used building materials, appliances and furniture? We pick up larger items, so give us a call at (207) 221-0047.
Come check out the ReStore and help us make the dream of home ownership a reality for more families!
Thank You Town and Country Federal Credit Union!
Thanks to Town and Country Federal Credit Union for hosting their Rock the House Kickoff Concert on Saturday, June 1! The benefit concert featuring the band Foreigners Journey was a big hit.
We want to thank Town and Country for being such a long term steadfast supporter and advocate. As a partner, they financed most of our home owners in our current project, Carpenter Court in Scarborough.
Volunteer at the Old Port Half Marathon and 5K!
Volunteer at the Old Port Half Marathon and 5K on Saturday, June 22! This is a great opportunity to sign up with a group of friends, family members, colleagues, or on your own to support Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland.
This year's race boasts a great course that runs through the heart of the Old Port district in Portland. Habitat volunteers will hand out water and Gatorade drink mix to runners. Hours are 6:00am-10:00am.
All volunteers will receive an Old Port Half "Deck Hand" shirt and be invited to join the festivities and live music at the Ocean Gateway Terminal after the race. Additional volunteer perks include access to the post-race food tent and complimentary Shipyard beer.
Volunteer of the Month
Over his years of volunteering, Bill has worked on 33 different houses! He says he does it because he believes in the mission and the philosophy that it is not a handout, but a hand up. He enjoys the other volunteers who make working seem like play. The same can be said about the site supervisors from whom he has learned an enormous amount.
Bill is a Peace Corps alum, which led him to spending seven years in Colombia as the owner of a cashew farm. Several prairie fires ended that and he wound up in the paper industry, first in Colombia and then for two more years in Spain. At that point he came back to the states and earned an Economics degree at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He continued to work in the corrugated packaging industry. He has three children and four grandchildren.
