YOUTH VOLUNTEERS

Descriptions & Opportunities

Summer Work Camps

Each summer, youth groups travel from all over New England and beyond to

spend a week volunteering with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland.

Local accommodations are organized for each group.  SWC groups spend

the week working at various Habitat locations within Greater Portland.

Groups are scheduled months in advance so please contact Habitat for

Humanity as soon as possible to schedule a group.

Workshops

Youth ages 5 to 15 have the opportunity to participate in an educational and

hands-on building experience through our youth workshops.  Youth groups,

Girl and Boy Scout troops, school groups, etc. are invited to join us to learn

more about our mission and goals at Habitat and also become involved in a

building project.  Projects might include painting, sanding, planning, and building!

Projects completed by Habitat for Humanity youth groups may be used in the

building of Habitat homes, be given as a gift to a Habitat family, or may be sold

in our ReStore.  All proceeds from the sale of these items benefit Habitat for

Humanity youth programs.

Build at the Site

Youth ages 16 to 25 are able to participate in the actual building of Habitat homes.

No construction experience is required and all skills will be taught on site!  We ask

that all volunteers call in advance to schedule days on site.

Youth United

Youth United is an affiliate-driven program, developed and supported by the Youth

Programs department, in which community youth come together to completely fund

and build a Habitat home. Youth ages 5 to 25 serve as the leaders, planners, fundraiser

and public relations specialists while youth ages 16 to 25 build the house on site.

Fundraising

Because we are a non-profit organization, fund raising plays a vital role in our ability

to operate and work towards our mission.  We strongly encourage youth to become

involved in those fundraising opportunities already established by our affiliate and

also to be creative in developing their own ideas.

Youth Programs Coordinator at (207) 772-2151 or by email at youth@habitatme.org.
